Dear Storm Families,
Usually this time of year, we're gearing up for the extravaganza that is the Storm Skate-a-thon. Unfortunately, we're not able to hold this event due to COVID-19 restrictions. For those of you new to the UVHA, this fundraiser has doubled as a season-end celebration with on and off-ice activities, including a BBQ, prize drawings, and a chuck-a-puck contest. We had nearly 325 attendees at our last in-person celebration in 2019. The 2020 Skate-a-thon was cancelled at the onset of this pandemic, but the Storm membership amazed us with another record-setting fundraising effort, despite the challenges of a "virtual" event, netting almost $15,000.
To close out the season this year, each team will hold a "Storm Nation Skate" on Saturday, March 20th. Coaches are planning on-ice fun and games for their teams. Like with the Skate-a-thon, we are encouraging players to reach out to neighbors, family, and friends to make cash or check contributions to the UVHA. Funds raised support need-based scholarships and offset operating expenses, keeping registration fees as low as possible. There's no per-player minimum to be eligible for participation on Saturday as we recognize that every dollar raised in the next coming weeks is one given most generously amid the strain of this pandemic.
Each player will receive a goody bag to be enjoyed at home. The top fundraiser will receive a $250 credit toward next season's registration and either a select Apple iPad or Apple AirPods (winner's choice). All participants will be entered into a grand prize drawing, also receiving a $250 credit and either an iPad or AirPods. Each team will hold a chuck-a-puck contest, winners awarded a gift card to an Upper Valley business. A parent or sibling will be welcome to DJ each team's skate and another individual will be allowed to live-stream the event.
Please print the attached pledge form and return it with your player's collected donations by the last practice the week of March 15th-19th. Copies of the pledge form will also be available at the rink. For players unable to participate in the on-ice portion of the event but who would still like to help with the fundraising effort, we will schedule a time for the drop-off of pledges and the pick-up of goody bags. Both Vermont and New Hampshire players will be eligible for the top fundraiser prize and grand prize drawing.
Thank you for your continued understanding, cooperation, and flexibility this season. Here in Vermont, we've missed being in the rink watching our kids play and we've missed one another, but we're grateful to the players, parents, volunteers, and coaches who made this hockey season possible at all. We can't wait to welcome back our New Hampshire families and finally reunite the Storm Nation, giving us all the more reason to celebrate together in what we hope will be the near future!
UVHA Board of Directors
Hello Storm Families,
I hope that everyone is enjoying your holidays.
Good news: WABA will be opening for Storm-related activities on Monday, December 28th (tomorrow). The schedule is located here: https://www.uvha.org/page/show/1302306-schedule. Please note that the schedule after this upcoming week will change.
Some important notes:
- The new Vermont guidelines limit activities to 25 participants. This may create issues with our 10U group and 8U group (Storm Academy, House Mites, Travel Mites). However, the coaches will be in touch to coordinate.
- In addition to the protocol that we had in place before the shut-down (temperatures, masks, doors open 10-minutes before ice), the coaches will be asked to enforce social distancing on the ice. Please help them out by reminding your players.
- Unfortunately, New Hampshire residents are still unable to attend WABA.
We’ll see some of you tomorrow!
