STORM TEAMS / PROGRAMS

Storm Academy: The UVHA's first introduction to hockey, focused on individual skating development for players aged four through ten. Mid-season advancement to subsequent age-appropriate programming is allowed, with coaches' approval. Storm Academy practices twice weekly at the Wendell A. Barwood Arena. 

House Mites: The UVHA's learn-to-play program, open to players who have graduated from Storm Academy and are ready for an introduction to the game of hockey. House Mites practice twice weekly and participate in cross-ice scrimmages on weekends at the Wendell A. Barwood Arena. Families can expect occasional travel to other local rinks and at least one northern Vermont jamboree.

Travel Mites: The UVHA's 8U travel hockey program for players ready to compete in cross-ice hockey games throughout Vermont and into New Hampshire. Travel Mites practice twice weekly and play cross-ice games on weekends, both home at the Wendell A. Barwood Arena and away. Families can expect participation in three northern Vermont tournaments.    

Squirt 10U: Full-ice, competitive travel hockey for players aged nine and ten. 10U hockey is non-checking. Team placement is determined following a fall skill assessment. Players who do not display prerequisite skills outlined by USA Hockey's Skill Progressions manual are not guaranteed placement.  Squirts practice twice weekly, with an optional bi-weekly skating clinic, and weekend games played throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. Families can expect participation in one UVHA-sponsored tournament.

Peewee 12U: Full-ice, competitive travel hockey for players aged eleven and twelve. 12U hockey is non-checking. Team placement is determined following a fall skill assessment. Players who do not display prerequisite skills outlined by USA Hockey's Skill Progressions manual are not guaranteed placement. Peewees practice twice weekly, with an optional bi-weekly skating clinic, and weekend games played throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. Families can expect participation in one UVHA-sponsored tournament.  

Bantam 14U: Full-ice, competitive travel hockey with checking for players aged thirteen and fourteen. Team placement is determined following a fall skill assessment. Players who do not display prerequisite skills outlined by USA Hockey's Skill Progression manual are not guaranteed placement. Bantams practice twice weekly, with an optional bi-weekly skating clinic, and weekend games played throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. Families can expect participation in one UVHA sponsored tournament.    

Midget 16U: A split season September through the end of November, travel hockey for players aged sixteen and fifteen. This level is meant for players looking to prepare for their High School seasons or to just continue to play following their Bantam eligibility. Typically there will be one practice per week and one game on Sundays, allowing players also playing fall sports to participate.
